Overview
Ballymore Kindy is a not-for-profit community kindergarten tucked into inner Brisbane, built around the belief that quality early childhood care should feel calm, joyful, and connected to nature. Being a small kindy allows them to build genuine, lasting relationships with their families.
The Challenge Ballymore Kindy Faced
Ballymore Kindy had a new brand identity that needed to be rolled out and a outdated website that parents were having difficulty navigating. With limited not-for-profit resources, this project spent years in limbo. A parent had kindly offered to start building something in Squarespace, but when their availability changed, the project stalled… again. For a small team focused on delivering quality care every single day, finding the time and expertise to sort it out themselves wasn't realistic.

The committee and team knew what they wanted: a site that felt modern and welcoming, communicated their values, and made enrolment easy. They just needed someone to make it happen.

The groundwork was already laid. Ballymore Kindy had started their build in Squarespace, and for a small not-for-profit team, it was the right call to stay there. Squarespace gives non-technical users real confidence with content updates: swapping photos, updating term dates, tweaking copy. It's manageable without ongoing developer support, which matters a lot when you're running lean. We built the site with that in mind, keeping the structure logical and choosing content blocks that keep the layout tidy even if edited by a non-techy person.

They wanted someone local who understood the context and who could pick up the existing Squarespace build rather than starting from scratch. After an initial discovery call, the decision was made. Emily described it as "helpful, honest and productive," which is exactly the kind of first conversation we aim for. When a not-for-profit team is putting their trust (and their limited budget) into a project like this, the working relationship matters as much as the outcome.

Bringing the new brand to life
Ballymore Kindy's rebrand gave us a lot to work with: a bold, joyful colour palette paired with playful illustrated shapes, organic blobs, and hand-drawn squiggles that are fun without being babyish. The design brief was to honour that identity fully: use the brand confidently, let the colour do real work across the pages, and create something that felt genuinely distinctive. Every section was considered, from the way colour blocks anchor the page structure to the illustrated details that carry the brand's personality into the layout and keep the reader’s eye moving through the pages.
Letting the environment speak
A huge part of what makes Ballymore Kindy special is their space. The nature-filled outdoor areas, the cosy indoor environment, give the sense that children are genuinely thriving there. The centre’s photography was central to telling that story. We built the site to give those images room to breathe, with a Spaces section dedicated to showcasing the learning environment and its philosophy: natural elements, thoughtful design, voice and choice.
Creating a clear enrolment pathway
One of the primary objectives was generating new leads and supporting families through the enrolment process. Clear “Enrol Now” CTA’s are prominent on every page. We built a dedicated How to Enrol section that maps out each step clearly: checking eligibility, submitting an application, and confirmation, so families know exactly where they stand. The CTAs throughout the site ("Hop, skip or jump into Ballymore Kindy!") are warm and specific, matching the kindy's voice while prompting action.
Building a site the team can manage
With content management as a clear goal, we made decisions throughout the build with the Ballymore team in mind. Page structures are consistent, sections are logically grouped, and nothing relies on custom code to update. A small not-for-profit team shouldn't need to call in help every time they want to add a new form or update a team photo. With this build, they won't.

The response from their community said it all. Families who already knew and loved Ballymore Kindy finally had a website that matched what they'd been telling people about. And for new families discovering the kindy for the first time, the site now does the job it should: communicating the warmth, the values, and the environment that makes Ballymore special, clearly enough that hitting "Enrol Now" feels like the obvious next step.
